A Feast For the Fortunate

Om, Swasti!

Dharmakaya, unchanging unity of appearance and Emptiness,

Vast expanse of youthful great bliss,

Sky of spontaneously present joy, free of defilement,

Bestow a feast of unchanging goodness upon us.

Through the seeds of inherently pure virtue

That arise from even a bit of glorious goodness,

And the bright smile of virtue revealed

By the offering of the light of these lamps to the Three Jewels,

May the well-being of a golden age arise

In this realm of the thousand-petaled lotus.

May the time of warfare and disputation be pacified;

May auspicious excellence prosperity and goodness flourish

Especially throughout the land[s] of America.*

May the youthful lotus of teaching practice bloom;

May innumerable oceans of realms be filled

With the melodious roar of the Profound Secret!

* This prayer originated in response to a request from a representative of the seat of the Karmapa in North America which is Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) situated above  the town of Woodstock  in New York State.

The 1999 booklet includes two other prayers besides the words of HH Karmapa.  The next prayer is by H.E. Tai Situ:

The Ground, self-awareness, is utterly luminous Wisdom.

It is Prajnaparamita, which thoroughly distinguishes among things.

Its nature is awareness unobscured by ignorance.

It is Emptiness and Lucidity united, the very nature of luminosity.

The radiant rays of this light fill all quarters of space.

May the merit of this light bring happiness to all beings.

The nature of this light is the very nature of all things.

May the light of the Buddhas' wisdom be revealed.

Keun shi rang rik ye she keun tu sal

The offering concludes with the words of H. E. the 12th Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche:

By offering these beautiful and tranquil lamps

In the joyous presence of the Perfect Buddha, the King of Illumination;

Gyalwang Karmapa, the Lord of the World;

And all the Buddhas with their children,

May the poison of malicious enmity

Never arise in the mind of any one of us.

With loving minds, like the meeting of mother and child,

May the world be filled with peace and happiness.

Dzok pay sang gyay dreun may gyal po dang

Jik ten wang chuk karmapa la sok

Say chay gyal way deun sa nyam ga war

Jam pay sem kyi ma bu tray pa shin

Dzam bu ling keun shi day kyap par sho.
